What are the hygiene standards we need to follow as an eyelash extension therapists?
All therapists complete hygiene and safety training, but when start working, many of them fall overtime when standards change or they simply forget the key aspects in the field. Inadequate hygiene procedures can leave clients open to the risk of cross-infection, poor procedure results, and other problems, which eventually leads to the loss of clients and a bad reputation for the therapist.
Today, we will show you some of the key aspects of providing hygiene and safety to your clients during eyelash extension procedures, in order to ensure that you offer the highest level of service.
Before and during the procedure
- Make sure you use clean bedding towels for every client you have during the day.
- It is also good to have a container that is operated with a foot lever so that you can dispose of waste without touching the lid.
- Disinfect your hands with an antimicrobial agent, rinse and dry with disposable paper.
- Thoroughly clean the client's eye, including the eyelid, the eyelashes, and upper cheek, with a degreaser to clean the oil from it. Then dry and apply the degreaser on the lower lashes.
- The gel pads should be open only when you are ready to apply.
- During the procedure, we recommend the use of disposable gloves and a mask. This creates a pleasant professional atmosphere.
- Disposable sticks should be used to separate and comb the eyelashes. Giving customers the stick to take home can encourage too much zeal for combing leading to possible damage for the eyelash extension.
- Separate as many eyelashes as you can before the procedure. You can always separate more lashes later if needed, but it is much more hygienic to do it before.
- Keep your tweezers clean with a detergent to remove any remaining glue before sterilizing.
What are the right tools for the application?
- Glue rings are a great way to ensure hygienic application of the adhesive. Glue rings are best worn on the middle finger to prevent spilling. It’s important to throw it after each customer, do not reuse it.
- Always have a few sets of tweezers to make sure you have a spare one in case ones you’re working with get dirty. And also this will give you enough time to properly sterilize the tweezers between clients.
- Separate as many eyelashes as you can for the procedure. You can always separate more lashes later if needed, but it is much more hygienic to separate it before the application.
- Keep your tweezers clean with a detergent to remove any remaining glue before sterilizing.
- Avoid mixing materials, such as your micro brushes, in general packaging. Keep them in their original packaging and just prepare what you need before each procedure.
- Store your tweezers properly when not in use. In case of fall, freeze fallen tweezers to avoid contamination.
- Always buy the highest quality tweezers possible, Аnd always chose tweezers made of stainless steel.
- The use of a sterilizer is required to keep metal tools sterile between procedures and to avoid damage over time.
